Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang

Went to see Chelsea Handler on Saturday night. She was amazing, knocked it out of the park. If you are reading this and thinking I don't know who Chelsea Handler is, then you must live under a rock. Chelsea is a #1 New York Times bestselling author and has a late night talk show on E! Unfortunately we were in the last row, but trust me we were lucky to get that. The show was sold out, in fact I'm pretty sure practically all of her shows have sold out. They did have those jumbotron screens so that made it better. If you ever get the opportunity you should take advantage of it and go see her live.

Tim Burton Craziness

Just got back from a lovely trip to New York City.

Luckily we avoided the rain that seems to be plaguing the area. We actually had a purpose for this trip, there is an exhibit with works by Tim Burton and we could not resist the temptation to view it.

The exhibit was very well done but extremely crowded. The works were a lot funnier than I though they would be. He had a poem from his younger years that I found amusing, entitled The Blind Date. Here are the closing lines:

"I said to my friend/ you lied to me/ you said she was blind/ but she could still see"

The exhibit followed a predictable pattern of early life flowing into more recent works. There were a few pieces from the movies he had done on display. There was even a lifesize replica of Edward Scissorhands. Even the entrance was impressive, welcoming you into the exhibit through a giant mouth.

The museum itself did not overly impress us. Modern art just isn't our thing. Although they had a room with works done by Monet which I enjoyed.

Not only did we visit the MoMA but also the Museum of Natural History. This may make us sound a little naive but we thought the movie would be similar to the way it is depicted in Night at the Museum, it was not. I could not find a hall of miniatures or impressive dioramas. It is possible that they were there and we just didn't find them. We were awfully tired and the museum was getting ready to close. We will just have to go back and try again

Of course, we had to visit Central Park, one of our favorite places. We went early in the morning to avoid the mass crowds. There is something peaceful about getting away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

One of my favorite things about Central Park is the beauty of it. Even in winter when the grass is brown and the trees are bare there are little flowers trying to poke their way through. I also love the Alice in Wonderland statue. This was the first time I had seen it without children climbing all over it.

Calling All Twilight Fans!!

I have discovered a new book that I think Twilight fans will be interested in knowing about. I was just walking through Barnes & Noble one afternoon and there it was sitting on the shelf.

The cover initially caught my eye because it looked similar to the Twilight cover, with some changes. The apple that was on this cover was completely eaten.

I picked it up only to discover that it was a parody of the Twilight book. The back cover describing the book nearly had me in tears with its humor. The story is a tale of Bella Goose (aka Bella Swan) living in the town of Switchblade, Oregon (aka Forks). Edwart Mullen (aka Edward Cullen) is a hot computer geek. The events of the book sounded so ridiculously funny I had to get it.

So far the book has not disappointed me. Hopefully some of you will find this book just as amusing as I am.

Alice in "Underland"

Went to the midnight showing of Alice in Wonderland last night. It was so much busier than either of us anticipated. We got there probably an hour and a half early and the line was almost out the door. But no worries we got good seats. One thing I love about midnight showings is that people tend to dress up. Ironically I did not see one Alice. Saw some Cheshire cats and mad hatters, even one white queen.

I have to say this movie was nothing like the books but better in its own way. The attention to detail was amazing, plus the creatures were absolutely adorable. Probably will go see it again.

Why Do Bad Things Always Happen to Us?

Yet again we have another harrowing tale. To break up the work of the weekend Miss Moon and I decided to try going to a small museum on one of the other campuses. We should have know this trip would be a disaster from the start. First off, it was freezing outside and we had to wait for the bus. The bus was late of course, forty five minutes late. We got to the campus and got off the bus. Little did we know we had gotten off too early and had to walk to the museum. Oh well, no harm no foul. We got into the museum and it was interesting. It was the Eric Carle Picture Book Museum. Perhaps you've heard of these, The Very Hungry Caterpillar or Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?. He is the author. The museum has art from some famous picture books. They also have some of the books there for you to read, it's very nastalgic. Got to read some old favorites; The Poky Little Puppy and The Shy Little Kitten.

Now is when the fun begins. We start to walk back to the original bus stop and a bus passes right by us that we could've taken. We continue walking and end up waiting about a half hour for the bus. We are freezing and happily board the bus. As the bus begins it route we realize we are on the wrong bus. We are now caught in a continuous loop taking us everywhere but where we need to be. We decide to get off and wait for the right bus. We only had to wait maybe fifteen minutes but when its thirty degrees outside and rainy that is a very long time. We finally arrive back at home but we had to turn on the heater and thaw ourselves. Perhaps we won't be taking the bus for a while.

Alice in Wonderland

In preparation for the new movie coming out in March, I have started reading Alice in Wonderland. This is one of the more interesting books I have read recently. Its very "psychedelic" jumping from one plot to another. Don't get me wrong its very good but unlike anything else. One minute Alice is playing fetch with a giant puppy the next she's a giant getting caught in the trees. One thing I did like was that whole Mad Tea Party thing has been cleared up. I never understood in that cartoon movie why they had so much tea paraphanalia or why they were constantly moving. The reason is that the Mad Hatter got into an argument with Time and Time is punishing him by making it constantly tea time. They keep moving because they don't like to clean the dishes. I definitely recommend this one.

The Most Magical Place on Earth!!!!

Just got back from a thrilling vacation in Florida. Of course, my mother and I went to Disney World. I have been several times but its been a while, she had never been. It was interesting to notice the differences in some of the rides. Some things changed and otheres remained the same. I think we had a good time. Plus only one day of rain. I'm used to going in the summer when you can expect rain practically every day. The weather was certainly more appealing this time, compared to New England weather.

We stayed on the property which is very convenient. They drive you from the airport to your resort and they have buses running from your resort to each of the parks. You never have to drive or worry about parking.

We stayed in the Animal Kingdom Lodge. Its nice to wake up every morning to a giraffe outside your window. Its like a vacation on the savannah.

It might be predictable but my favorite of the parks was the Magic Kingdom. There's just something about that place that is truely magical. The rides are amazing, including my personal favorite Pirates of the Carribbean. They've added Jack Sparrow to the ride! I love the haunted mansion as well. It's not like its scary but I find it fun.

Waiting in lines wasn't too bad but you kind of have to expect long lines. Although in one ride we waited two hours!

Of course, all good things come to an end and we had to come home. The lines at the airport were insane. Guess this is a popular time to travel.
